After reading horror stories about driver support/Mac incompatibility I decided to skip it. Not long after the initial release, the DeathStalker Expert came out and I decided to give it a chance. If you're a fan of laptop style keyboards, but want good backlighting and macro support this is it. I'm an "average" touch typist who hovers around 70 words per minute. Once acclimated to the DeathStalker, I'm up to 89 WPM!! There is minimal travel, and it provides excellent feedback. I never question whether I pressed a key (unlike my more expensive Ducky Cherry MX Red keyboard). There is no issue with me hopping between OS X and Windows 7 on my MacBook, though I don't use the Razer Synapse software Mac side. My first instinct when I get a new keyboard is to throw out the wrist wrest, but let me tell you... having it built in has changed my o pinion completely. I no longer have strain in my wrists and I am thankful for having it built in and looking sleek. As far as backlighting goes, you can turn it all the way down to the point that it just looks like the letters are painted on. This is awesome. One thing I'd like to find out is whether the keys are removable so I can swap the "Windows" and "Alt" keys to make it more Mac friendly. I definitely give this keyboard a solid 4 stars. 5 if they would stop using the hard to read/ugly font on their keyboards. Buy this if you want a simple, yet quality keyboard. 8 of 9 people found the following review helpful good for gaming, This review is from: Razer DeathStalker Expert Gaming Keyboard (RZ03-00800100-R3U1) (Personal Computers) I had looked online for weeks trying to find a backlighted, GAMING keyboard without a ton of bad reviews. When I saw this one on sale on amazon, I thought, what the hell, they're good with returns. So far, everything that would turn away a GAMER has NOT been an issue with this keyboard:PROS -all the keys light up -W+SHIFT+SPACE work when used at the same time -SPACE works even when pressed all the way on one side of the button -no crashes so far or having to unplug and replug -no compatability issues with windows 7 -comfortable ergonmics -can't comment on paint wearing off as it is brand new It's not a mechanical keyboard because I didn't want a drop of water to ruin it as I have many/all meals at my desk. I think there were two spill incidents involving beer with my old HP stock keyboard, and that still works great - hope I have the same experience with this. CONS None, really. I thought I would ha ve trouble getting used to the font on this board and the fact that the keys are slightly more spaced apart than my last one, but I don't seem to have a problem with it all. 5 of 5 people found the following review helpful Game on, Gama!, By This review is from: Razer DeathStalker Expert Gaming Keyboard (RZ03-00800100-R3U1) (Personal Computers) First off, I will tell you about the lighting. I game in the dark most of the time. This thing stays well lit, and even if you're a blind old bat, you can see it fine. My hands are pretty big (size XL gloves), and these keys are the perfect size! I have yet to fully test every feature, but the lights are vibrant, the keys are large, responsive, easily pressed. I have not had any ghosting. I also turn on gaming mode so I don't bump myself out to the desktop while I'm in a PVP match or a raid, lol... One of the cool things which I have not needed to do, is to remap any key to do anything. I am a weirdo, and I mostly use the right side of the keyboard for games (almost everybody uses the left, but I have a few disabilities.) The thing is, every key feels like it is in the right place and size, so I haven't even needed to use that feature yet! Between this and my Razer Naga, I can be quite competitive in MMOs (mainly SWTOR and GW2) and other button-intensive PVP games. My only possible con is that I wish the bottom rest were detachable, as it tends to get in in the way for my unique setup, but if you are using a regular computer desk and not sitting in a recliner 6 feet away from your PC, this will not be a problem for you. |
